A long weekend
Jennifer had a rough weekend.
She finally got some sleep last night and is doing great today.
We were not sure if the Jonathan was getting enough food, so we changed his schedule today.
Jen is nursing every 2 hours. He is taking to it good so far.
I was off today and will take tomorrow off as well to help establish a routine.

Insomnia Update
Jen did get some sleep last night.
Thank you for your prayers.
She felt much better today.
The last 2 days, Jonathan has been on a schedule minus a few interuptions when he had some visitors.
All in all, he is adjusting to his new schedule.
We have already moved Jonathan into the other room so that Jen is not disturbed by evey little noise that he makes.
Hopefully, he will adjust quickly to his new environment and sleep during the night.

Jen has been having a bought of insomnia the last few nights.
Pray that she would get some sleep.
If you have some practical suggestion on what you did to help with insomnia, please post a comment for Jen to read.

Doing Better
Jennifer's headaches have gone away or are a dull ache. She has had much more energy for which we are thankful.
Jonathan is an eating machine. Despite his intial problems with sucking, he really has no issues now! He wants to suck all the time.
The problem now is finding that balance of getting Jonathan enough food where he is happy, but not too much so that he spits some of it back up.
His fussiness seems related to his feedings for the most part.
Between 9 PM and 2 PM, it seems that this is his awake time. We are trying to change that. Time will tell.

A Trip to the ER
Last night, I took Jen to the ER (which is our Urgent Care location) because of her migraine.
They gave her an IV and some medications to help with migraines.
The medications made her jittery, so they gave her some Benadryl as well.
Well, the medications worked. She does not have the migraine any longer.
Pray that it does not come back.
We are tired, but Jen is happy to be functional again!

2/6 - A Long Night
Jonathan would not go to sleep last night, so Jen and I hardly got any sleep.
We think that he couldn't sleep that well because Jennifer has been drinking iced tea (which has cafffine in it) to help with the headaches.
We know that Jonathan was tired, but his body would not let him go to sleep.
Jen and Jonathan are both sleep right now.
A friend is coming over to give Jen a little bit of a hand today.
Jen gets tired really easy still. We have done several outings and she can usually last only 2-3 hours and then she is done.

2/3 - Update on Family
It has been a couple of days since I posted any information.
Jen has been able to get some sleep for which we are thankful.
We are both still tired and trying to adjust.
Jonathan had his first doctors appointment on Monday 2/1.
He is doing well.
Jen is has still been having headaches and we were wondering of the spinal headache was coming back.
We went to the doctor today and it is diagnosed as a migrane.
It is not a full migrane, but it still is very painful and is dibilitating for Jen.
We are thankful that it is not a recurrence of the spinal headache.
She got some medication to help with the migrane, so we will see how she progresses.
Pray that Jen's headache will go away and that we would have strength to persevere.

We Are Home!
Well we were discharged around 7:00 PM after the neonatel doctor gave the ok.
After I had posted yesterday, Jennifer got her headache back, although not as bad.
Finally today after talking to the anethesiologist, he determined that the blood patch ultimately did not take and she had a spinal headache.
He did another blood patch and she got some imediate releif, but pray that it holds this time otherwise we may have to take a trip to the ER.
But it is good to be home with our little boy trying to get into a routine.
We have doctor visits on Monday, but we have the day to rest on Sunday.

Update from Scott & Jennifer
Thanks everyone for your prayers and kind words!
We are so grateful for our little boy.
It was a long labor, 19 hours, but we are thankful that Jen did not need to get a c-section.
Much thanks to Cristina Thornburg (Who has been giving updates to the blog) and Christy Hinrichs (Who is 13 weeks pregnant herself) who assisted us during the birth. I don't know how we would have made it without them. Jen was very thankful to have them and they enabled me to take a break now and then
As Cristina posted the specifics, I will not repeat them here.
Jen was able to get some sleep last night, which we are thankful for especially after she did not get any sleep yesterday.
The blood patch was fully succesful and she has no more headaches.
She is still tired and a little sore were the stiches are located.
Jonathan is doing great and all the doctors are pleased.
The doctors and the nursing staff have been great during the whole process thus far.
Our doctor wants here to stay another night and we should be coming home tomorrow.
Cristina took a lot of pictures and I asked her to post a few pictures which she did indicated in her last post.
I will probably add a pictures section to the blog once we sort all the pictures out and get them uploaded.
Thanks again for everyones comments and prayers!
Also, another big thanks to our friends Christy and Cristina who were there through the labor!

Jonathan's "details"
Hi, everyone! I'm going to attempt to give you a few more details, for Scott and Jen, since they still don't have internet access. Forgive me if this is less than stellar writing...I've been up for over 36 hours now. :P
Jonathan arrived at 5:43 this morning after 2 hours of pushing. He weighed 7lbs and 14 ozs and was 21 1/2 inches long. He is beautiful and Scott and Jen looked so incredibly happy, though exhausted.
When I left the hospital this morning at 9am or so, Jen had an incredibly intense headache and neck pain. Although it was initially thought to be due to tension, the anesthesiologist suspected a spinal headache due to the epidural. He administered a blood patch. It was effective and Jennifer is MUCH more comfortable.
Scott asked for prayer that they would be able to sleep. He was able to get a bit of a nap today but Jen did not. Also, that healing will come quickly for Jen and that they'll be able to adjust to a new routine with a newborn.
I think that's about it for now. I'll do my best to post a few pictures tomorrow so you can "see" their "little man."

Jonathan Michael arrived at 5:43am. He hasn't yet been weighed. Jen did amazingly well and Scott was a super coach. Thank you so much for praying for them all. The Lord has been kind to answer our prayers. (and no c-section!) He is good!!!

Wednesday night
Jen is still in labor. She got an epidural at around 8pm. She's still contracting every two minutes or so. The doctor expect that she'll deliver sometime in the early morning hours. Should you read this tonight please continue to pray that a c-section will not become necessary.
Wednesday afternoon...
Scott and Jen are doing well. Jen was induced at 11 am and slowly started contracting. It's nearly 5pm and her contractions are 2-3 minutes apart. She's tolerating them well. It will likely still be several hours before they welcome Jonathan but we'll do our best to post updates. Thank you for your prayers on their behalf.
1/28 - Getting Ready to Go to the Hospital
We are getting ready for a long day, but it will be a joyous one at the end of it when we get to hold Jonathan.
There is no internet access at the hospital, so it might be a day or so till I can get some pictures up, but I will post info on how things went or have someone do it for me.

Induction Scheduled for Wednesday
Had my doctor's appointment today. Results were: no further dilation or effacement after an entire week! Rather discouraging news!! Doctor striped the membranes today but suggested induction since I don't seem to making any progress and I am approaching 2 weeks overdue - give or take 4 days. Apparently the hospital rooms are already booked for the next two days with scheduled births so my doctor had to pull some strings to bump one of the these patients. They had room tomorrow night but I was adamant about having a 'morning' appointment because I don't deal well with sleep deprivation and don't want to start labor in an already exhausted state. So as of now, I am scheduled to be induced Wednesday morning at 10:00. Not the way I had hoped things would go; I had hoped everything would just happen naturally, but at this point I feel a sense of relief knowing that there is a definite plan. My doctor's two concerns are: my ability to push out the baby (he thinks my pelvis is small) and a very long delivery (based on how slow things have been going he said to expect a 12-24 hour delivery, not a 6-12 hour one). A few matters of concern for prayer - Please pray that I'll be able to deliver the baby without needing a C-section, that the baby will be healthy and that I'll have the endurance for a long delivery. (I have a tendency to fall apart emotionally when sleep deprived and without food at regular intervals I get physical symptoms like headaches, the shakes, dizziness, etc. Plus, I turn into an emotional basket case and can't think straight.)
1/27 - Tuesday Morning
We did get some sleep last night. Jen did wake up at 5:00 AM, but did get about 6 hours of sleep.
She will try to get a little nap in before she goes to the doctors office @ 11:45.
The doctor will probably want to strip the membranes, but I think we will have to schedule an appointment to go to the hospital.

1/26 - Monday Evening Update
Jennifer went to Dr. Weeks, our naturopath, in which Dr. Weeks worked on the trigger points in hope that it will help.
It was a little painful, but Jennifer got to feel a little what the labor pains will feel like.
Jennifer will see Dr. Langford tomorrow morning and he may try to strip the membrains.
We will keep you up to date on how things go.

Jennifer had the NST this afternoon and everything still seems really good.
The nurse who was running the test said that little Jonathan passed with flying colors.
We then went on a tour of the Birthing Center @ Pomerado.
Continue to pray that Jennifer will not need a c-section.
Also pray that we would be patient, the waiting day by day is tough.

Still waiting...
Today is supposedly the 'due' date but there doesn't appear to be much activity. Contractions are still inconsistent and not very strong so it appears that Jonathan will probably arrive late. Doctor is not concerned about the late delivery because there are no complications, meaning that my blood pressure is good, etc. (He's the most laid back and competent doctor I've ever had.) Ever since I got out of the first trimester I've felt great. These last couple of weeks the reality of the last trimester finally hit me. I'm tired most of the time. When I take naps (usually daily) they tend to be long (sometimes as much as 2 hours). This week I managed one 3 mile walk with friends (instead of the usual 3 days of exercise) but I think that those days might be over as the exercise appears to wipe me out for the rest of the day. Will let you all know when something significant happens. Please pray for a safe (and sooner than later) delivery!
Saturday Update
Well as of Noon, PST, no baby yet.
Jen is having some contractions, but still nothing major yet.
She got a massage this morning in the hope of moving things along.
Jen is taking a nap now, but we will try to post some more info later.
